After leaving longtime fans unhappy with Diablo Immortal, has Blizzard Entertainment turned it around?
Though in theory, an "endgame" playthrough of Diablo 4 is probably 100-200 hours across a larger span of classes,
I feel like I can judge what I've seen.
My impressions are overwhelmingly positive based on what I've experienced so
far, from the map to the gameplay to the new systems to even the story, which I was not expecting. Blizzard really seems
like they've nailed this, and I'm going to say the only way this will be poorly received at launch is if technical
issues kill people's ability to play.
But once it gets rolling? Yes, I think you’re going to like Diablo 4.
9/10
When it comes to clicking demons until glowing loot pops out, Diablo 4 is the most Diablo any Diablo has ever been ... An exciting, modern version of Diablo is in here--I can see parts of it poking through the surface--but I'm starting to lose patience waiting for it to show its face.
The art direction and overall vibe of the game is out of control. I’ve had to stop a few times now just to get a closer look at some things.
Not to spoil anything, but oh lord do some of the side quests and audio diaries send shivers down the spine. The prison audio log about bread and honey really got me. Chilling.
Well done D4 team.
Progression isn't satisfying... I have no measuring stick. I cannot find an area of the game in which I can compare my prior self and measure the difference.
Every percentage power gain I can amass, it seems all enemies also accrue a nearly identical amount.
Scaling is always hard to nail, but this game seems to stick to a nearly 1:1 ratio between your character and mobs.
Imagine a world where scaling is tipped ever so slightly in favor of the player, maybe 1:0.85. You'd still never feel a strong
power spike, but over time things would start to feel better.
